Your tasks

You will work on the n2EDM experiment to search for a neutron electric dipole moment, a possible signal of beyond-Standard-Model physics. The apparatus is under commissioning at the ultracold neutron UCN source. You will have the possibility to work on all aspects of the experiment. You will be responsible for the mercury magnetometer system in all aspects of running, maintaining and further development in hard and software. You will take part in the first data taking of the n2EDM experiment and the first n2EDM analysis. You will supervise students on all levels.

Your profile

We seek a talented and ambitious person who is highly motivated to work on this competitive project in fundamental physics in a well-established research team within a large international collaboration. 

• You have a PhD degree in physics 
• Experience in experimental fundamental physics and/or neutron physics and/or experimental atomic, nuclear or particle physics are considered as an asset 
• Ability to work independently is essential 
• You are a good team player 
• Flexible and multitasking work attitude 
• Demonstrated practical experience in experimental work, hardware setup and data analysis; experience with lasers and optics is a plus 
• Programming skills are required, and experience with electronic/ mechanical hardware design are considered as plus 
• Excellent level of English as working language in spoken and written is mandatory 
• Ability to write excellent documentation in English 
• Knowledge of German or willingness to quickly learn German is a plus
