      The theoretical and computational methods group at the Swiss ABB research center develops and improves theoretical models and numerical tools relevant to ABB products and technologies. We support and drive the development of ABB’s next-generation products and solutions. We are looking for an outstanding theoretical physicist or applied mathematician to join our group and to strengthen our physical and mathematical modelling capabilities.       Your responsibilities

      • Develop new approaches, models and algorithms for ABB devices and applications, with a particular emphasis on both simulations of the physical devices and data analytics (reliability, monitoring, diagnostics, and prognostics)
      • Improve and advance models of the underlying processes; drive innovation based on physical insight and complex simulations
      • Apply state-of-the-art and advanced statistical methods, as well as, model- and data-driven prognostics across the whole range of ABB products
      • Work with and transfer knowledge to and from ABB divisions and other partners from industry and academia
      • Initiate and lead research projects
      • Publish scientific articles and attend conferences

      Your background

      • Ph.D. in theoretical physics, mathematics, or closely related field; post-doctoral experience is an advantage
      • Outstanding scientific track record
      • Broad knowledge in physics, mathematics, statistics, and numerical methods
      • Demonstrated proficiency in applying this knowledge to applied problems
      • Knowledge in the field of monitoring, diagnostics, prognostics is a plus
      • Ability to quickly acquire knowledge in new scientific areas and to integrate innovative techniques into your workflow
      • Curiosity, enthusiasm, and drive to bridge the gap between research and application
      • Fluency in English and willingness to learn German
      • Communication skills and interest in lively interaction within interdisciplinary
